Your home screen is personal. Linear is designed to keep it that way.

This policy describes how Linear Launcher for Android handles information. Linear has no account, advertising, analytics, tracking, behavioural profiling or crash-reporting SDK. We do not sell personal information. Linear does not operate an account or analytics server.

Weather and location

Weather is optional and off by default. If you enable it, Linear asks for approximate location permission. While Linear is in use, it uses Android location providers and, where available, Google Play services to obtain a coarse location. These providers are independent services and may process location-related information under their own policies and your device settings. Linear does not request background location or use location for advertising, analytics or tracking.

To retrieve local weather, Linear sends coordinates rounded to two decimal places over HTTPS to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), using its Locationforecast API. MET Norway also receives your IP address as part of the connection and may retain request information in its logs. See MET Norway’s API terms. Your location is not sent to Linear’s own servers.

Linear stores the latest temperature, weather symbol, rounded coordinates and cache metadata privately on your device. The cached result can remain after Weather is turned off and can be displayed while a refresh is underway. Linear checks network availability to retry unsuccessful requests and does not run a background weather service.

Calendar and Next Event

Next Event is optional and off by default. If you enable it, Linear asks for calendar read permission and reads relevant events from visible calendars on your device to display the next event. Event information is processed locally; Linear does not upload events or use them for advertising, analytics or tracking. When you tap an event, Android may open it in your calendar app.

Apps and search

Linear reads launchable applications in your current Android user profile so it can display and open them. App details and icons are kept in memory on the device and are not sent to Linear or the weather provider. Search terms remain in the app’s temporary interface state and are not sent to Linear or stored as search history. Your keyboard is a separate app and may have its own privacy practices.

Settings and retention

Favourites, hidden apps, custom app names, appearance, Glance and gesture preferences, onboarding state, and the weather cache are stored in Linear’s private local storage. Android backup is disabled for Linear. The data remains until you clear the app’s storage or uninstall it. Turning off Weather does not erase its existing cache. Hiding an app only removes it from Linear’s lists; it does not secure or uninstall the app.

You can turn Weather or Next Event off in Linear’s Settings and can revoke their permissions in Android settings. Diagnostic logs record weather timing, cache state and response status without coordinates, weather values or calendar details.

Network and sharing

Linear uses network access for optional Weather. It sends the rounded coordinates described above to MET Norway; the connection also exposes your IP address to that provider. Linear does not transmit calendar events, app lists, search terms or preferences to MET Norway or to Linear servers. Android, Google Play services, your keyboard and other apps you choose to open operate independently.

Children’s privacy

Linear does not knowingly collect personal information from children through accounts, advertising or analytics. The optional Weather feature sends approximate coordinates to MET Norway as described above. A parent or guardian can disable Weather and revoke its permission in device settings.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app or its data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when changes take effect.
